Michael Wilson

Executive Director

Michael Wilson began his journey as the Executive Director of the VFW National Home in January of 2022.

He is a Veteran of the Army National Guard with 27 years of service, retiring in January 2009. Michael was selected to be promoted to Command Sergeant Major in 2003 and graduated in the top of his class at the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy in 2005. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Army Commendation Medal (4 awards), Army Achievement Medal (4 awards), Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Medal, Michigan Legion of Merit Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and many others too numerous to mention.

Since retirement, Michael has worked in the military and veteran services including the Army’s Survivor Outreach Services, and the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. He is the Owner and Principal Consultant of Pro Leader Consulting LLC that serves veteran friendly and nonprofit organizations in organizational design, leadership, and growth.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies with a focus on Business and Organizational Development from Spring Arbor University and is a Distinguished Graduate of the Lou Holtz Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Trine University.

Mike earned his eligibility to join the VFW in 1991 and joined Post 1355 in 2003, becoming a life member in 2015, and a Gold Legacy Life Member in 2022. Previously, he was the Commander of the American Legion Post 73 in Sturgis, Michigan. He is a life member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), National Guard Association of the United States, Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States, Association of the United States Army, and the National Rifle Association. He has been a Life Member of the VFW National Home since 2020.

Michael is married to his lovely wife Phyllis. Together they have 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Someday, Mike would like to have a dog.
