At the VFW National Home, we empower residents of all ages to “turn on the lights” through student-centered programming that builds responsibility to self, family, school, and community. From early childhood through adulthood, our education programs are designed to support growth, confidence, and lifelong success.
Throughout the year, our education staff and dedicated volunteers collaborate with local schools, parents, and partners to ensure every resident has the tools they need to thrive.
Academic Support & Tutoring
Personalized, one-on-one support helps residents strengthen key skills and reach their goals. Whether it’s reading, math, organization, study habits, or test preparation, our team meets students where they are.
Our Education Program is available to all residents—including adults—as a resource for success in school, career, and life.
Life Skills Development
Teen Life Skills Program (Ages 12–19)
Through mentoring, hands-on learning, and themed events, teens build essential skills for independence and adulthood. Guest speakers and individualized sessions provide real-world insight and guidance.
Adult Life Skills
Adults have access to classes and support groups focused on practical topics like financial management, parenting, household management, and healthy relationships—helping them build strong, stable futures.
Learning Spaces
Computer Lab
Open after school and during the summer, the lab provides access to technology for homework, job searches, online courses, and more.
Library
Our library offers a wide selection of books and multimedia resources, along with a quiet space for study or leisure reading. Special programs encourage literacy for all age groups.
Science Lab
Residents explore topics like geology, astronomy, and microbiology through hands-on activities and interactive learning, both during the school year and summer programs.
Summer Enrichment
Learning continues beyond the classroom with engaging summer programming. Residents explore subjects from astronomy to zoology through field trips, team projects, and hands-on experiences.
Community Service & Patriotism
Service is at the heart of the National Home experience. Residents give back through community involvement, writing letters to veterans, and visiting local hospitals.
They also participate in meaningful campus traditions that honor our nation and its heroes, including Veterans Day, Memorial Day, POW/MIA Day, and Fourth of July celebrations.
