At the VFW National Home, our mission has always been rooted in providing hope, healing, and stability to veterans and military families. But behind every beautifully maintained space, every welcoming environment, and every successful program are the people who generously give their time and energy to help make it all possible — our volunteers.

This spring, we were incredibly fortunate to welcome two outstanding volunteer groups to our campus for spring clean-up projects: Consumers Energy and CG Financial Services. Both organizations spent time helping care for the National Home grounds at the end of April and beginning of May, rolling up their sleeves to prepare our campus for the season ahead.
What makes these volunteer efforts even more meaningful is that neither group is new to the National Home. Both Consumers Energy and CG Financial Services have partnered with us for years, continuing to show up with dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to serve veterans and their families. Their ongoing support is a beautiful reminder that community is built through consistency, kindness, and shared purpose.
For CG Financial Services, volunteering at the National Home has become more than just a service project — it’s become personal.

“I wasn’t familiar with the National Home until I began working at CG Financial Services in 2024,” shared Jora Brummete, Executive Specialist with CG Financial Services. “A colleague was organizing a volunteer event there and asked if I would help, which introduced me to the organization. The VFW National Home is a client of ours, and our team has supported several projects there both before and since I joined the company.”
Jora explained that volunteering has always been something she deeply values, but her connection to the National Home became especially meaningful because of her family’s ties to military service.
“With many veterans in my family, getting involved felt especially meaningful to me,” she said. “Since being introduced to the National Home, I have been incredibly impressed by everything it represents and the impact it has on veterans and their families. It’s such a special place, and I’ve found myself sharing its mission with so many others since then.”
That passion and enthusiasm are exactly what make volunteers so essential to the National Home community. Their work goes far beyond landscaping or spring clean-up projects. Every flower bed refreshed, every branch cleared, and every hour donated helps create a safe, welcoming, and beautiful place for the families who call the National Home home.
“The VFW National Home is a community that provides hope, stability, and support to veterans and their families when they need it most,” Jora shared. “Seeing the impact they make firsthand has been truly inspiring.”

We could not be more grateful for volunteers like those from Consumers Energy and CG Financial Services. Their willingness to give their time, talents, and energy directly supports our mission and helps ensure that veterans and military families continue to have a place where they are supported, valued, and cared for.
To every volunteer who has spent time on our campus over the years: thank you. Your compassion leaves a lasting impact, and your partnership means more than words can express.
