There’s something special about a day when good friends, a little friendly competition and a shared mission all come together, and this year’s Fourth Annual VFW National Home Charity Golf Outing was exactly that.

Twenty-eight teams joined us at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan, for a beautiful day on the course, all while supporting veterans, military families and the children who call the VFW National Home campus home.
From the first tee-off to the final putt, there was plenty of competition to go around. Teams competed in our four-person scramble for 1st, 9th, 18th, and because every great golf outing needs one, last place. Golfers also put their skills to the test with closest-to-the-pin, longest-drive and longest-putt contests for both men and women.
And then there was the hole-in-one challenge. Once again, the prize survived another year. Maybe 2027 will finally be the year!

The fun continued after golfers came off the course with awards and raffle prizes, including a signed Blake Corum jersey. Corum, a former University of Michigan standout and current Los Angeles Rams running back, has been a tremendous supporter of the VFW National Home. Other raffle prizes included gift cards, coolers and more.
But as much fun as we had on the course, the real win happened because of what everyone came together to support.
This year’s outing raised funds for the VFW National Home’s Community Center Youth Innovation Space Project. Our Community Center is an important gathering place for the children living on campus, giving them a safe place to spend time after school, during the summer and throughout the year. Through the Youth Innovation Space Project, an underutilized area of the Community Center will be transformed into an exciting and engaging environment where kids can learn, play, connect and grow.

For the veterans and military families who come to the National Home to build a new beginning, spaces like this matter. While parents work toward greater stability and independence, their children have a community where they can simply be kids.
“It was a beautiful day for a golf outing, but what truly made it a great day was seeing so many people come together in support of our mission,” said Dr. Jerred Johnson, Executive Director of the VFW National Home. “We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, golfers, partners, friends and families who continue to show up for the veterans and families we serve.”
Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our sponsors. A special thank-you goes to our major sponsors, including Huntsinger & Jeffer, Superior Industrial Sales & Service, Inc., Coach & Crew, Helmets to Hardhats, Nuwave and Plante Moran, along with every organization and individual who helped make the day possible.

We were especially excited to see so many new faces on the course this year alongside familiar friends who continue to return and support our mission year after year.
To every golfer, sponsor, donor, volunteer and supporter who joined us: thank you! You helped turn a fun day of golf into something that will have an impact long after the final scorecard was turned in.
Because at the VFW National Home, it’s about more than providing a place to live. It’s about creating a place where kids can be kids, families can heal, and veterans and families can build new beginnings.
