For more than a century, the VFW National Home has been a place where hope is restored, families find stability, and new beginnings take root. Since 1925, our mission has remained steadfast: to provide the support military, veteran, and service families need to build strong futures.

Today, we are excited to begin the next chapter of that legacy.
The VFW National Home is proud to announce Dr. Jerred Johnson as our new Executive Director.
While every new chapter brings change, the heart of the National Home remains the same. Dr. Johnson steps into this role with a deep respect for the generations of leaders, supporters, staff, and families who have shaped the National Home into what it is today. As we honor our rich history, we also look forward to an exciting future filled with new opportunities to strengthen our impact and serve even more military and veteran families.
Dr. Johnson is no stranger to service.
A retired Army National Guard Captain with more than 23 years of military service, he has experienced firsthand the sacrifices made by those who wear our nation’s uniform. His distinguished career includes deployments at home and overseas and honors such as the Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and numerous federal and state commendations. Those experiences have given him a profound understanding of the unique challenges veterans and their families often face.
That understanding is matched by a passion for helping others succeed.
Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and a Master’s Degree in Management from Davenport University before completing his Doctorate in Business Administration at National University. His academic background, combined with his leadership experience, equips him to continue expanding programs and opportunities that make a lasting difference in the lives of the families we serve.
Beyond his leadership at the National Home, Dr. Johnson also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Cleary University, where he mentors and inspires the next generation of leaders. He is a proud Life Member of VFW Post #2406 and remains deeply connected to the veteran community he has dedicated his life to serving.
Most importantly, Dr. Johnson understands that the VFW National Home is about people.
It’s about the veteran taking the courageous first step toward a brighter future.
It’s about the child who finally has a safe place to call home.
It’s about families discovering hope, healing, and the confidence to build a new beginning.
As Executive Director, Dr. Johnson is committed to building on the remarkable foundation established over the past 100 years while embracing new ideas that will ensure the National Home continues to evolve alongside the needs of today’s military and veteran families. His vision is one rooted in innovation, compassion, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to our mission.
“The VFW National Home has always been more than a place, it’s a promise,” said Dr. Johnson. “A promise that military, veteran, and service families don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. I’m honored to lead this incredible organization into its next chapter while preserving the values and legacy that have defined the National Home for more than a century.”
As we continue to honor our history, invest in our families, and strengthen our programs, we do so with confidence, knowing that our mission is in capable hands. Together, with our supporters, volunteers, staff, partners, and the VFW and Auxiliary, we will continue creating a place where military and veteran families can find stability, opportunity, and hope for generations to come.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jerred Johnson as he begins this exciting new chapter as Executive Director of the VFW National Home.
