From Illinois Represents District 8 (IL, IN, MO, KY)
2020-2026

Kyna Simpson brings a strong background in military service, education, and VFW leadership to her role as District 8 Trustee for the VFW National Home.

A dedicated advocate for veterans and their families, Kyna has served as the Illinois National Home Department Chair since 2023. Through this role, she has developed a deep appreciation for the National Home’s mission and its ability to adapt to the changing needs of veteran families. She became a National Home Life Member in 2023 and takes great pride in Illinois’ longstanding relationship with the National Home, including its sponsorship of two homes on campus.

Kyna retired from the United States Navy in 2019 after 24 years of active and reserve service, including a deployment to Afghanistan. Since joining the VFW in 2018, she has held numerous leadership positions, including VFW Post 311 Senior Vice Commander, Illinois District 16 Quartermaster, and Co-Chair of Illinois’ Voice of Democracy program. She has also served on the VFW National General Resolutions Committee and as a National Aide-de-Camp.

Beyond her military and VFW service, Kyna is a retired public-school teacher and currently owns a home-based school for young children. Her passion for education, mental health support, and family advocacy aligns closely with the National Home’s commitment to helping families build brighter futures.

As District 8 Trustee, Kyna is dedicated to expanding awareness of the National Home’s resources, particularly for veteran families with children. She is passionate about connecting families with financial guidance, career development, and the support they need to thrive. Kyna looks forward to helping preserve and strengthen the National Home’s legacy of service for generations to come.
