Welcome Back Home

May 30, 2015 was a mixture of a family reunion and high school reunion on the campus of the National Home as many alumni from the Home visited their past. From Texas and Alaska to Illinois and Michigan, alumni gathered in the Community Center and museum to renew friendships, pore through stacks of old photographs and just share stories of their lives during and after their stay at the National Home. In preparation for the day, staff had boxes of old photographs from years gone by for alumni to go through. Printers were made available and copies of photos were immediately made for alumni desiring them. This was a big success and the museum turned out to be the major gathering point for the day. The mix of ages of the alumni that made the trek to the National Home was exciting to see as they met and shared their experiences. The warmth with which they greeted each other as one by one they entered the room made the planning for this Alumni Reunion worth every minute spent. The visiting alumni had the opportunity to tour most of the houses while sharing stories of their childhoods. During lunch alumni again sat down with current residents and shared the experiences of growing up at the National Home. Stories of days spent working on the farm, staying in the nursery or the hospital, memories of football and baseball games, graduations and weddings all merged together in to a day of friendship. We would like to thank those alumni that were able to attend the Alumni Reunion 2015. The National Home is planning for a 2020 Alumni Reunion.
