National Home Welcomes VFW Departments of Illinois and Indiana for Annual State Day Festivities

August 15, 2024

Every year, the National Home kicks off the beginning of fall with a visit from our friends at the VFW Departments of Illinois and Indiana!

In the early hours of Saturday, the campus was covered in thick fog as visitors from Illinois rolled through the National Home’s north entrance. Thankfully, the fog dissipated, and the day was comfortable and breezy. Attendees enjoyed watching the National Home children working on a pumpkin craft, taking guided campus tours, running a .1k race, enjoying a picnic lunch together, and hearing presentations from Department members and National Home staff.

Sunday, Mother Nature granted attendees a sunnier day as Indiana made their way onto campus. Visitors had the opportunity to interact with National Home families as they played outside, enjoyed a pop-up petting zoo, and .1k race down the center of campus. Guided campus tours, a program presentation, and lunch with residents and staff were provided.

All in all, it was a beautiful early fall weekend in Michigan!

It was a successful weekend for the National Home as both departments brought many first-time visitors and presented donations to the National Home.

Thank you, Illinois and Indiana, for your continued support!
