Two new board members installed

The VFW National Home for Children Board of Trustees welcomed two new members at its Annual Meeting of Life Members October 24. Merton “Sam” Compton served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. A life member of VFW Post #3424, Compton was honored as All-State Post Commander in 2001-2002 and All-State District Commander in 2002-2003. He was elected State Commander of the Department of Ohio in 2010, and he has served on several national committees, most recently in 2014-2015 when he served on the National Resolutions Committee. Compton currently serves as the Voice of Democracy Chairman for the Department of Ohio. A retired police officer, he is also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #954 and the F.O.P Lodge #72 in Springfield, Ohio. He has been a National Home Life Member since 1996. Ronald Stensland served seven years in the United States Army, including tours in both Korea and Vietnam, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device 60, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal w/ Bronze Clasp 3 Loops. Stensland is a life member of VFW Post #23, DAV Lebco CH 81, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the VFW National Home for Children. He has served three times as VFW Post #23 Commander, District 18 Commander, and he previously served as a National Home Trustee from 2005-2009, serving as president from 2008-2009. Stensland has been a National Home Life Member since 2001. We had a great turnout for this year’s annual meeting, including visitors from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. Everyone enjoyed the annual Year in Review video,​ always one of the highlights of the event.
