The National Home celebrated the service of Merridy Lewis, at this year’s Annual Meeting of Life Members in October. Merridy has served as a member of the VFW National Home for Children Board of Trustees since October of 2012. As District 7 Trustee, Merridy represented the Departments of Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin. Merridy, of Michigan, joined the VFW Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1993 and is a member of Augusta VFW Auxiliary #7656. She served as Auxiliary President for eight years, District President for two terms and currently holds the office of District Secretary. In addition to holding several Department chairmanships and winning National awards, Lewis serves on the Fort Custer National Cemetery Advisory Committee and on a Red Flag Team that helps troubled VFW Auxiliaries. Lewis studied Business Management at Kalamazoo Valley Community College for two years. She has managed a bowling center and ran a licensed day care business. “We are grateful to Merridy for her dedication to her beloved VFW Auxiliary and to our veterans —and her service to their children and families here at the National Home will be long-remembered by all of us who have served by her side.” said fellow trustee and outgoing Board President, Dave Ouellette at the Annual Meeting. “Thank you Merridy for your service and dedication to your VFW National Home for Children.”
