The Department of Pennsylvania embarked on an inspiring mission: to help the VFW National Home transform its community with a brand-new Versatility Court. By making this the 2024-2025 Commander and President’s joint special project, they sparked a wave of enthusiasm, turning fundraising into a spirited and uplifting competition.

State Commander Barb Loncar and Department President Andrea Meintel led the charge, challenging everyone to see who could raise the most for the future sports complex. The friendly rivalry came with a fun twist—whoever raised the least would receive a pie in the face at the State convention! Across Pennsylvania, the 25 Districts rallied together, hosting creative events and making generous donations. One highlight was the unforgettable “Night at the Races” during the Auxiliary’s 100th Celebration, where National Home Executive Director Mike Wilson joined in the festivities. Every dollar raised from that night fueled the dream of a new Versatility Court.
Pennsylvania recognized that this project was about so much more than resurfacing an old tennis court. The Versatility Court would become a vibrant hub—a place where veterans and their families could stay active, connect with one another, and create lasting memories. This state-of-the-art, multi-court system offers spaces for pickleball, tennis, basketball, and floor hockey—a true testament to the spirit of community and wellness.
The dream became reality, and on June 28th, 35 proud members from the Department of Pennsylvania gathered at the National Home’s Community Celebration. Together, they stood on the new court—giant check in hand—celebrating the power of teamwork and generosity. Thanks to everyone who gave their time, energy, and heart, this vision is now a reality. The Versatility Court stands as a symbol of what we can achieve together. Now, who’s ready for a pickleball tournament? See you on the court!
