Saying Goodbye to District 10 Trustee, Al Cantu

The National Home Board of Trustees celebrated the service of District 10 Trustee, Al Cantu, as he completed his term as trustee. Al, from the Department of Texas has served on the VFW National Home for Children Board of Trustees since 2010, representing the Departments of Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and of course, Texas. Al first visited the National Home during the annual Jr. Vice Orientation in May 2009. After that visit — and all he learned — Al became a committed supporter of the Home. He was eventually persuaded to run for National Home trustee. And the rest is history! . During his term, Al served on many committees and was elected president in 2013. His peers describe his leadership as firm, fair and unwavering. He was never afraid to ask the hard questions, which helped the trustees make the best decisions for the Home. Al was also known by his fellow trustees and staff alike to be an extraordinarily kind and supportive gentleman. Through Al’s efforts, an outstanding number of VFW and Auxiliary members became new Life Members of the National Home, and his work with our donors and supporters resulted in significant support for the Home. Al’s dedication to his fellow veterans, and his service to their children and families here at the National Home, will be long-remembered by all who have had the privilege of knowing him and serving by his side. We thank you, Al, for your service and dedication to your VFW National Home for Children.
