Nothing quite celebrates the beginning of Fall like a big bowl of steaming hot, thick and chunky chili, and what better way to bring together a community than a little friendly competition? The Annual VFW National Home for Children Chili Competition kicked off last night with members of our community sampling the offerings and voting on them. The group was unable to reach a unanimous decision and a tie for first place was awarded to a white chicken chili and a more traditional chili called “Sherry’s Chili”. This event was also a time for staff to share all of the resources on campus with residents and talk about new programs that are just getting started. Speakers covered a range of topics from community service opportunities, to library programs and counseling opportunities. Everyone had a great time getting to better know their neighbors and the resources available to them while living at the National Home.
