Today marks the 32nd National Military Spouse Appreciation day. Designated in 1984 by President Reagan; the Friday before Mother’s Day is a set aside to recognize and celebrate the military family and all that they do for our country’s men and women in the service. These spouses are the backbones of their families and have weathered the kind of hardships that the average American family does not; long periods of separation, regularly fearing for the safety of their loved one, often uprooting their lives many times to move around the country. Yesterday in his Presidential Proclamation, President Obama said “As a country, we must keep faith with military spouses and uphold our commitment to the members of our Armed Forces to look after their families.” The VFW National Home for Children takes this commitment very seriously. Our community is open to the families of active-duty military personnel, veterans, and the descendants of members of the VFW and its Auxiliary. Visit our website for more information on how we can help.
