Missouri 1 House Named in Honor of Jim Mueller

July 30, 2025

At the VFW National Home, we are proud to honor individuals whose service and dedication have made a lasting impact on our mission. The Department of Missouri recently recognized one of its most respected leaders—Past Commander-in-Chief Jim Mueller—by renaming Missouri 1 House in his honor.

Jim’s connection to the National Home runs deep. From 2010 to 2016, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees, including time as Board President. His steady leadership and heartfelt commitment helped guide the organization during years of meaningful growth and change. Beyond his official role, Jim has always been a passionate advocate—sharing the mission of the National Home at every opportunity and encouraging others to support it.

“Jim has always believed in what the National Home stands for,” said Quincy Myrick, Commander of the Department of Missouri. “He felt in his heart this was the best way he could continue serving his comrades. This house is a reflection of that promise.”

For many years, Jim also made the annual trip to Eaton Rapids with the Department of Missouri. He rode the bus with fellow members, spent time with the children, and even dressed in costume to bring joy and laughter. Those who traveled with him remember not only his leadership, but also his warmth and humility.

The idea to name the home came together during a recent visit to the National Home. Commander Myrick introduced the motion at a Council of Administration meeting, where it passed unanimously. With help from the National Home team, the tribute was kept a surprise. When Jim learned of the honor, he was truly moved.

Today, Missouri 1 House stands not only as a home for a veteran family—but as a lasting symbol of service, kindness, and dedication. We hope that Jim’s story continues to inspire all who visit or support the National Home for generations to come.
