Judd A Thon 2016: Small distance = big benefit for the National Home

The third annual Judd A Thon stepped off at precisely 10:01 a.m. on a sunny Sunday in Naperville, Illinois. The winner crossed the finish line in seconds. But what the race lacks in distance, it makes up for in generosity. Since its inaugural run in 2014, this event has raised more than $50,000 for the National Home. Development Director, Sue Alverson and her family had a blast this year representing the National Home and participating in the big race. Special thanks go to Sr. Vice Commander Pablo Araya and Service Officer Mike Barbour for their work organizing the event again this year. The race is named in honor of Lt. Oliver J. “Judd” Kendall who was captured and killed during the battle of Cantigny, in World War I. Judd Kendall VFW Post #3873 was established in 1944 and is a unique post in that it is co-located with Naperville American Legion post #43. In a great demonstration of teamwork, VFW Post #3873 and American Legion Post #43 jointly sponsor this “short race that can go a long way to help children”. The Judd A Thon draws participants of all ages, from the very young (as young as three) to the young at heart (95 years old). Participants are encouraged to race in costume, and prizes are awarded for costumes as well as times. All proceeds from this fun event go to the VFW National Home for Children. Thank you Post#3873 for your outstanding support of the VFW National Home for Children! To check out pictures from this event click here.
