We are excited to announce this year’s Buddy Poppy Child, thirteen-year-old Isabel! Isabel just finished 7th grade and lives in the Florida House at the National Home with her mother Britani, father, Robert, and three siblings, Celia (14), Robert Jr. (2) and Violet (1).
In school, her favorite activities are Social Studies and Gym. “I love always being active!” she says. Isabel enjoys playing volleyball and basketball. She also plays the piano which she is learning at the National Home with her teacher, Rhonda Kennedy.
This summer, Isabel raised a pig for 4H named Hampton. Hampton placed 2nd for his weight class at the fair! Isabel’s great grandfather and father both served in the United States Army. Her dad fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and was stationed in various states, as well as Korea. “Living at the National Home is such an amazing opportunity, and I am so grateful for all the hard work the VFW, Auxiliary, Cooties, and National Home staff do. They organize lots of events and activities – like painting classes and book talks for us. I enjoy all the many opportunities given to us every day.”
