The VFW Departments of Illinois and Indiana enjoyed a beautiful weekend full of warm autumn sunshine and crisp cool breezes as they toured our campus. Saturday morning members from Illinois, along with a small group from Pennsylvania, arrived at the National Home for tours of their homes and of our facilities. Illinois was especially keen to see the beautiful new playground equipment that they fund-raised for in front of the duplexes. Our visitors enjoyed the beautiful fall day walking around our campus and learning about the National Home and our program. Sunday morning was a little cooler as we welcomed members from Indiana and took them on guided tours of the museum, nursery, guest lodge, and pond as well as the Indiana house. Some of our visitors had been here before, but many were experiencing the National Home and our beautiful grounds for the first time. We love having visitors here at the VFW National Home for Children. It is a great opportunity everyone to see the lasting impact that their donations make and get educated about our program. This year we asked visitors to make an additional commitment by taking a pledge to help a veteran family in their community. Pledge participants were asked to take a bracelet with our helpline number on it back to their communities and put it in the hands of a family in need along with information about our program. Working together like this, we can have even more of an impact on the lives of veterans and their families. To view pictures from Illinois Day click here!
