The VFW National Home Board of Trustees would like to share an important announcement with our valued supporters and friends—one marked by gratitude, reflection, and appreciation for a remarkable leader.

After years of dedicated service, Mike Wilson has announced his retirement as Executive Director of the VFW National Home, effective June 1, 2026. Mike’s leadership has left an enduring mark on this organization and on the countless military and veteran families whose lives have been touched by the National Home’s mission.
Since joining the VFW National Home as Executive Director in January 2022, the National Home has continued to strengthen its programs, expand its impact, and remain focused on its mission of providing support and opportunity to military and veteran families.

Mike’s dedication to service extends far beyond his time at the National Home. A veteran of the Army National Guard, he served our country for 27 years before retiring in 2009. During his distinguished military career, he was selected for promotion to Command Sergeant Major and graduated at the top of his class from the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy. His many awards and decorations include multiple Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Michigan Legion of Merit Medal, and numerous other honors recognizing his exceptional leadership and service.
Following his military retirement, Mike continued his commitment to veterans and their families through roles with the Army’s Survivor Outreach Services and the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. He also founded Pro Leader Consulting LLC, where he has helped veteran-friendly and nonprofit organizations strengthen their leadership, organizational design, and long-term growth.

A lifelong advocate for veterans, Mike has deep roots within the VFW community. Eligible for membership since 1991, he joined VFW Post 1355 in 2003 and became a Life Member in 2015 before earning Gold Legacy Life Member status in 2022. He has also been a Life Member of the VFW National Home since 2020. His passion for serving veterans and military families has been evident throughout every stage of his career.

As Mike prepares for this next chapter, we celebrate a career defined by service, leadership, and dedication to others. We are deeply grateful for the vision and guidance he has provided to the VFW National Home and for the strong foundation he leaves behind.
Please join us in thanking Mike Wilson for his extraordinary service and in wishing him and his wife, Phyllis, all the best as they begin this well-earned new chapter. His legacy will continue to inspire the mission of the VFW National Home for years to come.
