Every veteran has a distinct story shaped by their experiences. For many, that story includes a transition into education and personal growth. Today, we highlight a veteran who utilized Veteran Readiness and Employment Services (VR&E) to channel his military service into a future in criminal justice.
After serving in the Army, he became a single dad, prioritizing his children’s needs while juggling various jobs to support them. Once his kids were older, he decided to pursue a career in criminal justice – an area he was familiar with from his experience as a corrections officer and currently as a security guard.
This year, he graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. This achievement opens new opportunities for him and his family.
His journey underscores the strength of the veteran community and the impact of education. By sharing his story, he hopes to motivate other veterans to pursue their educational goals, showing that it’s never too late to make a change. With determination and hard work, he demonstrates how challenges can lead to new successes.
