Finding Stability Again: How Your Support Changes the Future for Military Families

July 21, 2026

Just a few years ago, Jessica and her family were facing one of the most difficult moments of their lives. After learning their home was being foreclosed on, they had only about ten days to figure out where to go next. Unsure of what to do, they reached out to the VA looking for resources for veteran families in crisis. That’s when they first learned about the VFW National Home.

What happened next changed everything.

After packing what they could into storage and staying with family during the application process, the family arrived at the VFW National Home searching for stability and hope. Nearly three years later, Jessica says this place completely changed the direction of their lives.

More Than a Place to Live

For Jessica’s family, one of the greatest gifts has been the support system surrounding them.

Jessica shared that, as a family full of “ADHD personalities,” organization, budgeting, and long-term planning had always been difficult. Having a dedicated case manager to help them stay focused and on track became a turning point in their progress.

For the first time, they were able to build a savings account and keep money in it.

Instead of constantly starting over after unexpected emergencies like car repairs, the family gained financial breathing room and the confidence that they could weather challenges without everything falling apart.

That kind of stability is life changing.

A Community That Understands

Jessica says one of the things their family appreciates most about the VFW National Home is the strong sense of community.

Families here come from many different backgrounds and experiences, but they all share a common goal: creating stable, healthy lives for their children without letting hardship define their childhoods.

Because of supporters like you, Jessica’s children have been able to enjoy opportunities and experiences their parents may not otherwise have been able to provide. From 4-H and piano lessons to summer activities and friendships, the kids have simply been able to be kids again.

And for Jessica and her husband, watching their children laugh, grow, and thrive without carrying the weight of adult stress has meant everything.

Creating Opportunities for the Whole Family

The stability provided by the National Home didn’t just impact the children, it opened doors for the entire family.

Before moving here, Jessica had started college but struggled to focus while living under constant stress and uncertainty. Once her family found stability, everything changed. She successfully passed every semester and recently completed her associate’s degree.

“Honestly, I don’t know if I would have been able to finish school without the stability and support we found here,” Jessica shared.

Her husband, Bryon, also found renewed purpose through the RAVE Program, where he has been learning about regenerative agriculture while working in the campus garden and continuing his education.

Together, the couple has been able to focus not only on surviving, but on building a stronger future for their family.

Because of You, Families Find Hope Again

Stories like Jessica’s are possible because compassionate supporters choose to invest in military and veteran families during some of their hardest seasons.

The VFW National Home provides far more than housing. It provides support, opportunity, mentorship, stability, and hope when families need it most.

For Jessica’s family, that support changed the course of their lives.

And for countless other families, your generosity continues making that same impact every single day.
