March is reading month, and the kids at the VFW National Home fully embraced the opportunity! This special time of year reminds us of the incredible power of stories and the joy they bring to children’s lives. It’s a month dedicated to fostering a love for reading, igniting imaginations, and nurturing the curiosity of our young readers. Kids on campus, from infants through school age, have been reading on their own, with friends, and frequently asking their teachers to read their favorite books over and over!
There’s something truly special about listening to someone read a story aloud. Our amazing staff took a break from their usual routines to read delightful stories to the kids at the Early Education Center (infant through preschool age). From the whimsical rhymes of Dr. Seuss to the adventures of Curious George and the hilarious tale of The Wonky Donkey. The animated voices, expressive gestures, and personal connections built during these sessions captured children’s attention and sparked their imaginations! Kids’ laughter and wide-eyed wonder filled the air as they immersed themselves in the magic of the stories.

Each story shared is a seed planted in a child’s heart, cultivating a lifelong passion for literature. But why is all this emphasis on reading important? Studies show that children who read regularly develop stronger language skills, better comprehension, and improved academic performance. March is more than just a month; it’s a critical time to set the stage for a lifetime of reading. By encouraging kids to read, share stories, and listen to others, we help them build a foundation for future learning.
