Director of Veteran Services Update

February 20, 2026

By Jerred Johnson, Director of Veteran Services

At the VFW National Home, we are continuing to make meaningful progress in expanding opportunities and support for the veterans we serve. I am pleased to share how our work is helping veterans build stability, confidence, and a stronger foundation for the future.

One of the central priorities of Veteran Services remains increasing access to education as a pathway to long-term success. We continue to actively enroll eligible veterans at Cleary University, helping residents utilize educational benefits and pursue academic programs that align with their career goals and personal circumstances. Education remains one of the most powerful tools for creating independence and long-term opportunity.

In addition to education, we are working closely with veterans to support employment readiness and job placement. These efforts include career exploration, résumé development, and connecting veterans with employers who recognize the value of military experience and transferable skills. Meaningful employment is a cornerstone of independence, and we are committed to supporting veterans as they take the next steps toward financial security.

Another key area of focus has been strengthening awareness and understanding of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits. Through ongoing collaboration with residents and staff, we are helping veterans better understand eligibility requirements, application processes, and how to fully utilize the benefits they have earned. Importantly, we are also assisting veterans in correcting VA benefit decisions that have been improperly denied or inaccurately reviewed—an issue that can significantly affect a veteran’s well-being and long-term financial stability.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the VFW National Home is able to provide continued advocacy, guidance, and support for the veterans who call the Home their community. Your support helps ensure that those who have served our nation have the resources they need to move forward with dignity and opportunity.
