If you are like me, you are familiar with the phrase “April showers bring May flowers.” That phrase speaks to a new day of hope, of sunshine awaiting us just around the corner of the gray and wet month of April.
Yes, something good is awaiting us if we just be patient and hopeful. Something bright will come out of something gray.
The sacrifices our veterans and their families make for our country can lead to many gray, rainy days in their lives. The VFW National Home for Children is the sunshine these sacrificing families need. Our singular purpose of existence is to repay our veteran families by assisting them in providing opportunities to achieve their family and individual goals in order to build a happier and more fulfilling life. Goals and dreams that have been put on hold due to the sacrifices of their service to our country now may see the brightness of a new day. Nestled within 629 acres outside of Eaton Rapids, MI, sit our 42 single-family homes, a gymnasium, library, computer lab, fishing pond, hiking trail, and an Early Education Center, to name just a few. The amenities I mention are ancillary to the heart of our purpose, and that is our Family Programs. These goal-setting programs include marital counseling, life skills training, educational field trips, tutoring, Patriotic Appreciation, and numerous other community resources and counseling. We are here for them as they have been there for us! So today, I ask that you join us in bringing some May sunshine to the lives of veteran families who may need it on their rainy April day. It is only through the generosity and support of our friends and donors that we are able to give qualified veterans and their families the sunshine they deserve. In that, I thank you.
