On January 3rd, I celebrated one year as the Executive Director and on January 7th, the VFW National Home will celebrate 98 years of existence. For 98 years we’ve supported Veterans and Families of the United States Armed Forces, the VFW, and the VFW Auxiliary. We’ve come a long way!
In just two short years we will celebrate 100 years! We are working on the celebration and planning a lot of great events and activities. It’s my sincere hope you will be able to join us.
For now, in our 98th year, let’s celebrate some of the successes of the last year. We are so glad to be back up and running after two longs years of dealing with a pandemic. For the first time in many years, we have over 35 houses filled with veterans and families in need. Through financial guidance, relationship support, Veterans with disability needs, employment, and educational support, we are taking care of those who have taken care of us.
In October we were able to cut the ribbon on the Veteran and Family Resource Center in the basement of the Health and Education building. We’ve identified several agencies and organizations who are willing to partner with us and bring their services to the VFRC so that our families don’t have to travel to get help. This program has grown dramatically over the last several months, but we have so much more to do.
We are working hard to make sure we are ready for the future by increasing our IT capabilities in the homes. With today’s workers doing much more from home, and the pandemic’s revelation of the effectiveness of home schooling, we need a greater capacity of bandwidth, and a solution is right around the corner.
Building Strong Families is our motto, and we are working hard everyday to find more and more ways to do that. We are so thankful for our continued support through the VFW and Auxiliary, as well as the wonderful work the Military Order of the Cootie, and the MOC Auxiliary continue to do for us every year!
2023 is looking to be another outstanding year! I hope to see some of you on campus someday soon!
