As someone who has shared with us, followed us, prayed for us and donated to us, I’m obligated to share with you what the VFW National Home for Children is doing to minimize our staff and resident’s exposure and spread of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are monitoring the situation very closely and are continuing to follow both the CDC guidelines and the direction of government directives. Our administrative team is meeting each morning to review updates and plans of action. All internal and external events have been cancelled until May 30. All common gathering locations on campus have been closed, including the Community Center and our Early Education Center. Employees whom have the capability to work from home are doing so. Case managers, thanks to a generous donation of tablets last summer, are able to work with our residents in a virtual format. Eliminating face to face contact. Residents are being communicated with through e-mail and text messaging. We have enhanced our cleaning measures. Our efforts have been and will continue to be, maintaining a safe workplace while encouraging and implementing practices protecting the health and safety of our residents and staff. Together with teamwork, focus and diligence we will weather this moment in time. As you know we can only continue to serve our veterans and their families with your continued support of love, support, prayers and yes, more than ever your donations. Together with your help I’m reminded of a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr: “The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand in times of challenge and controversy.” Together with focus and diligence we will weather this moment in time. Consequently, with your assistance, we will and all those we serve be better for it.
