Woowee! Last weekend was a busy and fun filled weekend at the National Home with our friends from the VFW Departments of Ohio and Michigan, the Marine Riders of Michiana and of Southwestern Michigan! Saturday a convoy of vehicles from the Department of Ohio poured onto campus. We had beautiful, cool and breezy weather for the day as the group enjoyed tours of the National Home community, ate lunch together, and conducted their meeting. Sunday was another day of wonderful weather, perfect for self-guided walking tours and participating in the fishing rodeo for our visitors from the Department of Michigan, the Marine Riders of Michiana, and Marine Riders of Southwestern Michigan. Visitors also had the opportunity for guided tours on our people movers, a luncheon, and their department meeting. Both groups enjoyed the opportunity to see our beautiful campus, listening to our Buddy Poppy speak and learning about the National Home’s program. This year there was a new event in town, the National Home’s .1K Fun Run which took place down the main road of campus on Sunday morning. The participants had a lot of fun walking, running, and jogging, the 328 feet to the finish line. This is an event that we look forward to hosting for many years to come.
