When Bill D’Appollonio says that he’d describe himself as a person who is involved in his community, it’s a massive understatement.
Besides his VFW work as Connecticut National Home Chairman, and his job with the town of Scotland Highway Department, Bill is a member of the volunteer fire department, serving as Chief Engineer, Fire Fighter 1, Emergency Medical Technician, and on several committees.
He’s a member of St. Margaret Church Men’s Club and of the Scotland Instrument Lending Library. He is Post Commander of VFW Post #10688, and is also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 270, where he served as Secretary for nine years. As if that’s not enough, you may not be surprised to learn that he has also organized his town’s Memorial Day observance for 25 years.
What might he do with any remaining spare time? Well, “I certainly wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to sit in on drums with a band if asked,” Bill says.
Needless to say, we are thrilled that Bill devotes some of his considerable energy in support of the National Home. He is particularly supportive of our program that helps military and veteran families get back on their feet after a crisis. And he is especially concerned with the need for funding, so that the National Home can continue providing all services while remaining cost-efficient. Bill wants others to know that donating or volunteering to help families of veterans and active duty personnel is a worthwhile and rewarding experience.
As he says, “If you want this organization to continue, support it. That way, when all is said and done, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you did your part.”
