Steve Van Bergen, Past President

Steve has held many elected positions in the VFW over the past 27 years including Post Commander, District Commander, Department Commander, Big Ten Chairman and National Council District 21 (representing Minnesota and Nebraska).

He has represented numerous Districts, Department and National appointments and is currently in his fifth year on the Finance and Internal Affairs Committee for the Department. 

Steve rose through the ranks of the Honor Degree of the VFW serving three times as the Seam Squirrel and was the Grand Commander.  He was also a gambling manager for eight years and trustee for the Minnesota Charitable Gambling Association.

Steve is a Gold Legacy member, life member of Everett McClay Post 1296, life member of the Cooties and life member of the National Home.

Over the years he has served as National Home Chairman for the District, Department and the MOC in Minnesota.

Steve retired after 40 years as a Local #10 sheet metal worker and member. He has been happily married for over 42 years.
