“Truly it is great work we have before us and one to which we should bend every energy to accomplish, for it will bring to us a happiness we never knew before; the road to happiness is to make the joy of life and living the portion of others less fortunate than ourselves; the measure of our own happiness is the happiness we give to others.”
Foreign Service, VFW National Magazine, June 1925
The VFW National Home for Children community provides children, youth, and single parent families with daily guidance, encouragement and love in a family- friendly environment. Our campus is like a small "village", with all the care and upkeep that it requires. Therefore, we have quite a variety of employment positions.
- Facilities employees keep our buildings, homes and grounds in beautiful condition.
- Public relations personnel provide vital communications with the public and our generous supporters.
- Accounting and funds development staff keep National Home finances in order.
- Child care workers, youth specialists, daycare center staff, recreation and education employees, and case managers provide counseling and social work services for our children and families, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The National Home is licensed by the State of Michigan to provide these programs; our process for selecting all employees is monitored by state licensing agents on a regular basis. However, we go beyond state requirements when selecting candidates to work at the VFW National Home for Children. The National Home wants to be assured that they have the kind of people working with the children that can provide the best possible care for them. VFW National Home for Children employees are a very special group of dedicated people. Many National Home staff members feel the work they do is more than just a job, but a calling to help others.
